At our District I am trying to champion ubiquitous applications with universal access that can break down the walls of our schools. Our next big step is an overhaul of the high school networks that allow students to bring their wireless devices into…

So, we have all adopted the idea that technology is an important tool in today's world, but I often wonder where we are headed? We have blogs, forums, wiki, podcasts, mac's, pc's, netbooks, laptops, desktops, moodle, wikispaces, and so on and so on.…

MediaWiki vs Wikispaces

As a newby to wikis and someone looking to make them available to teachers, what is the best way to go?

Use wikispaces or install a mediawiki server? I like the idea of having our own server and some of the technical benefits of that, buit I am not sure which is actually better software?

I would love to know some peoples thoughts.

Ready, Set, Go, Here I am at PETE&C

Well, this is my fifth year at PETE&C, but my frst time as an employee of a school district. I am excited to see what the conference can bring to me as a Tech. Director that I can take back to the district. I guess only time will tell.

On another note I am demo'ing a min-laptop to see how it might work when used for two days straight for basic usage, like skype, blogging, and email. So far I like it. The keyboard is a little small as it is an 80% keyboard, but in all it is pretty cool. I co… Continue

How should a Technology Integrator be paid?

I am working on the idea of our district hiring an Technology Integrator and have not figured out how we pay the person? Should they be on the teacher scale and part of the bargaining unit or should they be an Administrator and not part of the bargaining unit. From a little research I have done it seems that most Tech. Integrators are on the teacher side, but I am just not sure that is the best way to go. I would love to hear from people on which way to go and the pros and cons of that side.

what comes first the integrator or the technology?

As I sit and work on my budget I am amazed at all the technology we plan to buy next year and all the technology taht we already have...but then it hits me....We have all this stuff, but no one is really using it. I ask why and the answer is normally, I am not sure how to use it. So, I guess the question is, should we continue to buy more or cut back and look to add on an integrator?

I will answer those questions when I get a chance but I wanted to say hi. The boy looks great. We can share messy pics all week. Hope to run into to you. This year will make me not want to come back for a few years. Getting too busy.
