PETE&C

Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo & Conference

So, we have all adopted the idea that technology is an important tool in today's world, but I often wonder where we are headed? We have blogs, forums, wiki, podcasts, mac's, pc's, netbooks, laptops, desktops, moodle, wikispaces, and so on and so on. All of these things require time and money, two things that cause a great deal of resistance to the way we, the "technology adopters", think. As a group of people who love technology and believe in what it can do, is there a common picture of where we are trying to get? I would love to hear, read, what people at PETE&C think about education and where we will be in 5, 10, or 15 years?

At our District I am trying to champion ubiquitous applications with universal access that can break down the walls of our schools. Our next big step is an overhaul of the high school networks that allow students to bring their wireless devices into our network environment. I think we need to empower students to learn outside of our facilities and create content that can travel with the students, at home, to new schools or even new school districts.
